Please try this first — it's the official retraction method:

1. Grasp the cable close to the holder, and pull it diagonally downward and toward you.
2. While pulling, you'll feel spots where a "click-click" sound occurs and spots where it doesn't. Release the cable at a spot where it does NOT click, and it will return to its original position.
3. If the holder is touching the ground, pull the holder toward the lower right/front to extend the wire a bit further, then repeat step 1.

Two cautions: if you release the cable at a spot where it clicks, it will lock in place at that height, so avoid releasing there. And please don't yank it forcibly or leave it dangling, since that can cause cable wear, tire damage, or a tripping hazard for the next customer.
